Inspire Pottery Guidelines and Agreement - Studio Members

MEMBERSHIPS

Studio Space Rental Memberships entitles you access to the facilities and use of the equipment and glazes. In order to sign up for studio membership, you must first complete a 6-week class with us. Membership commences on the 1st day of each month and ends on the last day of each month. Payment will be set up via an auto-pay system using a valid credit card, and can be canceled at any time via a quick call or text. Membership includes designated shelf space, unlimited bisque firings, and 10 glaze fire tokens.

Six-week class students who purchase a Studio Membership will receive 25 pounds of clay and 10 glaze fire tokens every 6 weeks.

Additional glaze fire tokens can be purchased for $2 each. Glaze fire tokens do not expire.

OPEN STUDIO hours are 8AM-11PM daily. Please be aware that classes are in session every evening, except Sundays, from 6:30-8:30 PM, and Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm. There are 4 reserved wheels, table space and a sink in the back of the studio for members to use during class times. Priority space for throwing, trimming, and glazing in the class area must always go to class students during these instructional hours. Please be respectful.

RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLEANUP

Clay is a messy process and leaves marks on us, the wheel, the floor, the wall. Make sure you clean up as you go, and take extra time when you are done creating to wipe down any/all surfaces that you have worked on AND clean and put away any tools you have used.

Clay dust is hazardous. If you must sand greenware and/or bisque imperfections, do it outdoors. Wearing a particle mask is recommended. For bone-dry greenware, please moisten with a sponge or spray before trimming. Both practices will keep harmful dust out of the studio.

GLAZING

Wax resist should be applied to allow a 1/4" glaze margin at the bottom of a pot, and ONLY the brushes marked for wax use may be used. Permission for glazing inside foot rings will be determined by the glaze to be used and depth of the foot.

Glaze carefully. Open only one glaze bucket at a time. Make sure your pot is completely dry before layering with a different glaze and ONLY THE TOP 1/3 of a pot may be double dipped. When using Jen's Juicy Fruit, dip it only on the lip (1/8 inch) of a pot (mugs and taller/no plates or flat bowls) and place a Jen's Juicy card in your pot. These cards are available on the roller shelf next to the glaze kilns. Wise glaze selection and careful application is essential. Firing fees are not refunded when you don't like the result, except if it's the fault of studio personnel. Any mess made by a pot not glazed with knowledge and care disrupts the firing of everyone else's pottery, and depending on the situation, may be the financial responsibility of the member. Any pots not suitable for firing will be left on shelf with a note explaining why it was not fired and what can be done to resolve the issue. Test tiles should be used when experimenting with a new combination. There is no firing fee for test tile samples. Keep a written record of the combination being tested in your pottery notebook.

GLAZE FIRE FEES

In addition to unlimited bisque firing, your membership comes with 10 tokens to be used for glaze firings. Using the chart by the glaze kilns, small and medium size pots require a single token be placed with the piece in order to be fired. Large pieces require 2 tokens. If you require lidded pieces to be fired separately (i.e. the lid is to sit directly on the kiln shelf), 2 tokens are required - one for each piece. If you have  miniature pieces, you'll find a 'Glaze Token Bowl' on by the kiln. You can use a single token for as many pieces as you can fit into the bowl (level with the top of the bowl).

Additional glaze tokens can be purchased for $2/piece, and they do not expire. Payments will be accepted Weekdays from 9AM-to 5PM and Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30.
